Visited Garth Cottage on the back of all the good comments and wasn't disappointed. We were welcomed by Mark and our stay was brilliant (which is more than I can say about the weather!) Mark had prepared us a fabulous meal on our first night and breakfast choice was fantastic - truly set us up for a days walking! Bedroom was comfortable with spectacular views. Would not hesitate in staying again if in the area."

"You must visit!
We have recently returned from a weekend break,we stayed at Gareth cottage guest house. We've been to Symonds Yat before staying at the Royal Lodge Hotel,I have to say we made a fantastic choice by choosing Gareth cottage,Mark,Val and Bert are a lovely family who make you feel exceptionally welcome. On arrival we were greeted with tea/coffee and biscuits. We decided to stay in and try the evening meal, Mark asked us what/how we liked our food and is there any special requirements-The food was cooked to perfection. The breakfast was the best we've had out before -the works!Again absolutely delicious, after having two meals which could not be faulted at all, we decided to book Saturdays evening meal-We have eaten out before at symonds Yat and we can honestly say that Marks cooking topped all of the them, theres an execellent choice and plenty of it! The rooms are very clean and comfortable with lovely views of the river wye-the rooms are en-suite with tea/coffee facilities and hairdryer. We have already booked our second visit to Gareth cottage for July and we are taking family can't wait!"

"Wonderful B&B - can't recommend highly enough
This is a really super B&B in a very pretty and peaceful hamlet on the banks of the river Wye. The views of the river & surrounding landscape from the room, breakfast room and terrace are wonderful. The Eden family are very welcoming and the breakfasts were delicious with a wide choice. Parking is right outside the cottage and there's also a good pub almost next door which serves great food for lunch/dinner (although it isn't noisy at night - we slept really well!). Will definitely be recommending Garth Cottage to family & friends."

Can't really add anything to previous reviews- it's all absolutely true! Mark and his mum Val made us really welcome, with a pot of tea on the outdoor terrace when we arrived. The room was really clean and well stocked with tea/coffee making making facilities and toiletries, and I had to tear myself away from the view to go downstairs and start exploring. The dining room has the same great view, but it's easy to forget it once you experience Mark's cooking. Poached haddock, kippers, eggs Benedict, smoked salmon on toasted English muffin…or a beautiful FRESHLY COOKED full English? Life can be so difficult! Mark also does evening meals with enough notice, and although we didn't have one they looked just as good. He also has a really well-stocked little bar-the cold lager was a real winner after a long walk on a hot day and it was great to be able to sit outside with it under the sun umbrella on the terrace watching the river go by. Would go back there like a shot. We found them by Googling 'Garth Cottage' & booked by e-mail, but you can phone too."

"Old Fashioned Welcome.
Had a lovely stay here. It won't suit everyone…decor is dated and quirky and the room very small. BUT it was spotlessly clean, comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent served at a table with the most beautiful views."

"A Little Gem!!
We were greeted at 10.00am by our host Mark who kindly offered us a nice cup of coffee on arrival. Then off to canoe down the River Wye for the rest of the day. Symonds Yat gets very busy at bank holidays and we were dismayed to find that many of the resturants and hotels were fully booked. No problem at Garth Cottage…Mark promptly sugested he could knock us up a dinner consisting of a smoked salmon starter followed by duck breast in a port sauce with shallotts! Where else would you be offered that at such short notice? It was absolutely delicious! Very nice room for the overnight stay (an olde worlde kind of a feel but VERY clean and well presented) followed by a superb cooked breakfast with all the trimmings. It scored 10/10 on my scale for taste and what I really liked was everything on the plate was piping hot! This was our first visit to Garth Cottage having stayed previously in the other hotels and inns nearby but this has, as the title suggests, proved to be a real gem of a find. Highly recommended to all….the family that run this place are excellent hosts."

"What a Cottage!!
From the moment we arrived, greeted by Mark with a tray of tea and cakes to the morning we left, nothing was too much trouble. One of the best B&B's we have stayed in. The room (No 4) was not overlarge but was more than adequate for our needs; very comfortable with a lovely bed and the shower / toilet was fine. Mark is an excellent chef, so be aware to pre book dinner; the variety of his dishes is great. This is definitely one to go onto the 'must visit again ' list. We stayed just two nights but it will be more next time."

"A pleasure, Comfortable and Homely
This is such a Home from Home, Great food, Warm welcome and Family run. This will not suit everyone but for those who appreciate cleanliness and surroundings more than (modern) style this is absolutely fantastic. To wake up and open the curtains to that view….. Wonderful."

Had a last minute break with my fiancÚ at Garth Cottage 12th Sept, location was perfect, room was impeccably clean, views lovely, the hosts were very welcoming and friendly. There was more than enough choices for breakfast, went for the Full English, and it was delicious. We will be planning a trip back and would most definitely stay at Garth Cottage again, faultless."

Very little to add to the other reviews about Garth Cottage other than to say we agree with all the positive comments. We spent a weekend here and were lucky enough to be in Room 2, which has a dual aspect of the River Wye (awesome views) and was very clean and comfortable. Mark and family were very friendly and welcoming for the duration, adding up to a very relaxing time. The whole experience had a charm and uniqueness which, as a family-run business, is simply impossible to emulate in a larger property. The breakfasts are also worth mentioning, we tried smoked haddock and full english, and both were superb!"

"Our 40th Wedding Anniversary
My wife and I had a lovely 4 day break at Garth Cottage to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We had stayed here before so we new we this would be the perfect setting for this wonderful occasion. The room was lovely and the views are fantastic. Mark, Val and Bertie are so helpful and make you so welcome they become as much friends as hosts. Our evening meals were just perfect, compliments to Mark, a proper chef.
The full English breakfast is a must but if you can't manage this the haddock with poached eggs or the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs are both delicious.
Thanks for a lovely stay and we hope to be back later this year. Phil and Carole, Stoke on Trent."

"The most fantastic hosts!
I didn't stay at Garth Cottage, but booked my older friend in last minute after a very chilly night at the neighbouring campsite and an unplanned dip in the river Wye after canoeing. The owners could not have be more accommodating and caring, fetching him a cup of tea and cake, turning the heating up and helping me and my friends keep an eye on him whilst he caught up on some much needed sleep. A well deserved but light hearted ticking off in the morning about camping in your 70s in the UK, in April, was much appreciated by me and my friend!! Thank you so much for helping us out and for being so kind."
