Fantastic few day at the end of August. Only booked the 3 nights the Friday before. Traveled down on the August bank holiday Monday. Got a warm welcome from Mark and Val and a parking bay right out side. Given a cup of tea and a seat before being shown to the room. OK for all you that like to find DUST!! YES there was dust but I had to wet one finger and run it along the top of all the pictures in the room before I found one with a little dust on it. I looked out of the window it the river WYE and the view up the valley and stopped looking for faults just relaxed and totaly enjoyed the few day we stayed there. Mark and Val could not do enough to make us fIll welcome. giving us the low down on were to eat and the best walks. WE WILL BE BACK."

"Enjoyable break, would go back
Rereading the reviews having now stayed here we can see what people have been on about. Without doubt the welcome couldn't be better. Mark was most helpful with our stuff. The cottage is very homely and is all spotlessly clean. It's position right by the river is really good. The food (we only had breakfasts) was fine. We felt some of the decor was a little old fashioned and the room was a touch on the small side but honestly we didn't spend enough time in the room to really worry about this and in any event the wonderful outlook up the valley more than made up for it. On the whole Garth Cottage is really good value for money and we would definitely stay there again."

"a very warm welcome
A lovely location on the river Wye, we were greeted by Mark and immediately offerered tea and cake which was very welcome as the weather was cold, our room was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the river, we were offered an extensive choice for breakfast which was of a very good standard and very enjoyable. This place is not for you if you want all mod cons but if you want to relax and unwind in a lovely part of the world I would recommend staying here."

"Lovely, homely B and B
We enjoyed an excellent stay in Symond's Yat with Mark and his family. The B and B is very clean and in a very pretty location. Mark is an excellent cook and served us breakfasts of our choice daily as well as a really good evening meal on our last night. Highly recommended for guests who want a homely, welcoming place to stay."

This is a small B&B with a big heart. Mark and Val are brilliant hosts, welcoming and funny. My husband and I had the most relaxing weekend here in a part of the country I have never visited before. Their food is amazing and I'm only sorry we didn't have our dinner here on both nights. Mark is an excellent chef and nothing was too much trouble. The weather wasn't great but this didn't take away any of our enjoyment. There wasn't a tv in the room but with the stunning views and genuine hospitality it wasn't needed. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you"

"First time visit
What a wonderful place to stay. I have just spent two night at Garth Cottage and was astounded by the standard of service offered. Nothing was too much trouble for Mark & Val. They made me welcome immediately with a cup of tea and cake - and a pleasant chat. My room was really…"

"Great Few Days
We came with another couple who, like ourselves, were really impressed by both the location and the hospitality shown by the owners. From the private car park and lovely views to those amazing breakfasts, one could ask for nothing more.
We walked up to the Rock where the views are breath-taking and spent quite a lot of time exploring the tracks of the forests around and about.
Mark, Val and Bertie are most obliging and nothing is too much trouble. Mark's collection of model cars provoked lengthy discussions over the odd drink from the bar!"

"A pleasure, Comfortable and Homely
This is such a Home from Home, Great food, Warm welcome and Family run. This will not suit everyone but for those who appreciate cleanliness and surroundings more than (modern) style this is absolutely fantastic. To wake up and open the curtains to that view….. Wonderful."

"Fabulous location and friendly welcome
We stayed at Garth Cottage for a few nights. It has a super location overlooking the river and valley as well as high rocks. Mike was most welcoming and offered tea and cake on arrival, there was also an option to book an evening meal. We found bedroom 2 was far more spacious than bedroom 5, and the larger room had two windows with river views. We also had dinner one evening, which was well presented and very tasty.
Numerous outdoor activities nearby as well as several places to eat. Sitting outside on the patio, with birthday cake provided by Mike was glorious"

We've been coming here for about 5 or 6 years now and it just gets better every time, there is nowhere around here that gives you a homely stay like Garth Cottage does and the views of the river Wye in the morning are amazing, keep your eye out for the salmon jumping out of the river, again amazing! Thank you again Val,Mark and not forgetting Bertie"

"Great B&B in a stunning location
Firstly, the location is awesome. Garth Cottage has a prime situation on the waterfront, in the unbelievably scenic Wye valley. Symonds Yat does get a bit over-run in the daytime, but once the crowds have gone, the tranquillity is breathtaking. It is very relaxing, just to sit and take in the river view, either from the bedroom window, or from the terrace below (preferably with glass in hand…). There are great walks (on the level, or uphill, as you prefer…) from the doorstep - or boat trips - or (with a little more effort) canoeing trips.
Secondly, the hospitality is immense. Mark takes justifiable pride in looking after his guests, with the maximum of attention, and minimum of fuss. Breakfasts were amazing (sorry I am repeating other reviewers here), huge choice, expertly prepared, and more than sustaining. The well-stocked bar was a delightful discovery. The welcome here is generous and genuine, and creates a real sense of relaxation and wellbeing. We had a truly relaxing (bank holiday) weekend here, and are more than happy to recommend."

"Great B & B
This was our second visit to Symonds Yat and our first stay at Garth Cottage. We took friends with us so I was hoping that we had made a good choice of accomodation. Well it certainly surpassed all expectaions. Beautiful spot on the river, wonderful hosts and accomodation and a fabulous breakfast courtesy of Mark. The Edens are a delightful family and couldn't do enough for us even taking us into Monmouth on the Saturday morning to collect our vehicle wisely left there after a few beers on the Friday night. We love Symonds Yat and will definitely be returning to Garth Cottage"
